Pioneer Day
The 29th annual Pioneer Day Picnic. This Rotary-sponsored event is very popular with
long-time Sarasotans, who get to greet their old friends in a party atmosphere.
We expect 800-1000 Pioneers and guests to show up. To be a "Pioneer" one has to
have lived in Sarasota for 50 years or more. We have over 1300 Pioneers on our
list and are always looking for more. If you know anyone who qualifies and isn’t
on the list, tell Tim Herring 366-3894.
We serve an old-time meal of Barbecue, Black-eyed peas, Swamp
Cabbage, Hush Puppies, and ice cream, and it’s a popular menu! There will be
quite a party atmosphere that you will certainly enjoy as much as the Pioneers
do! Tim has stepped in as chairman of this enormous undertaking, but he needs
the help of EVERY Rotarian. PIONEER DAY WILL REPLACE OUR REGULAR MEETING on
October 23, so you should be there to help in some capacity! Committees begin
their work at 9:00 with the meat cutters, and finish about 4:00 with the cleanup
committee. There’s plenty for everyone to do
and it’s fun to work with your fellow Rotarians, so sign up now for one of the
committees.
